wIRA, short for water‑filtered infrared‑A, generates incoherent thermal radiation from halogen source filtered by water cuvette, retaining 590‑1400 nm infrared‑A spectrum while eliminating most superficial‑heating infrared‑B, infrared‑C and ultraviolet radiationPMC. It elevates tissue temperature, perfusion and oxygen partial pressure, triggering thermal and cellular biostimulation effectsPMC. Proven for pain alleviation, anti‑inflammation, exudation reduction and wound regeneration. Unlike laser devices, wIRA performs broad non‑destructive irradiation for physical therapy and regenerative treatment instead of tissue ablation.

Deep‑seated anti‑inflammatory effect|Dilate micro‑vessels and raise tissue oxygen partial pressure, relieve deep aseptic inflammation, reduce tissue exudation and swelling for joint and soft‑tissue lesionsPMC.
Pain relief & analgesia |Optimize microcirculation to ease inflammatory‑origin pain; applicable for strain, arthritis, post‑operative discomfort and post‑herpetic neuralgia, lower subjective pain sensation.
Reduce edema & exudation |Boost blood and lymphatic circulation, accelerate absorption of hematoma, effusion and soft‑tissue swelling after injury or surgery.
Promote wound regeneration & healing |Activate cellular activity, stimulate granulation tissue formation, support healing of surgical incisions, burn wounds, pressure sores, venous ulcers and diabetic foot wounds.
Post‑aesthetic skin barrier recovery |Alleviate redness, heat sensation and swelling after aesthetic procedures, assist damaged skin‑barrier repair. Note: No function for blood‑vessel ablation or telangiectasia removal.
Improve local microcirculation with deep tissue heating |Water‑filtered infrared‑A delivers deep penetrating thermal energy with low epidermal thermal load; large‑area homogeneous irradiation without skin‑burn risk.
Immunomodulation & supportive anti‑infection |Enhance activity of local immune cells, improve regional defense response and facilitate inflammatory wound recovery.
Cross-section of a water-filtered infrared-A radiator The whole incoherent non-polarized broadband radiation of a 3000 Kelvin halogen bulb is passed through a cuvette containing water, which absorbs or decreases the undesired wavelengths within the infrared region (most parts of infrared-B and -C and the absorption bands of water within infrared-A). The water is hermetically sealed within the cuvette. A fan provides air cooling of the cuvette to prevent the water from boiling.
Comparison of irradiation with water-filtered infrared-A and with conventional infrared Thermographical comparison of skin surface temperatures in the lumbar region 12 minutes after commencement of irradiation with water-filtered infrared-A (left) and conventional infrared (right) with the same irradiance: the skin surface temperature is higher in the case of irradiation with conventional infrared (presented in the thermography), while the temperature at 1 cm tissue depth is higher when irradiating with water-filtered infrared-A.
Water-filtered infrared-A thus leads to a high tissue penetration combined with a low thermal load to the skin surface.
